The University of Ibadan has been shut down until further notice following two days of protests by the students of the institution.

The students were protesting the suspension of a student union leader by the Student Disciplinary Committee as well as questioning the lack of power and water on campus.

In a statement, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Olayinka disclosed that the management had no choice in view of the violent dimension which the protest was taking.

He said life-threatening acts were being perpetrated and text messages had been sent and received around the campus, for which reason he directed that the students should leave the campus latest 4 pm yesterday.
